Hello!
Well, to catch you up: at our January 23 court date, I found out that I am one of five defendants being taken to trial. Here’s an article about that: https://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2023/01/23/5-felony-littering-cases-to-go-to-buncombe-superior-court-in-february/69832724007/
That same day, the trial date was set for February 27. That’s really coming up, right?
This coming Monday, February 20, is the day that both sides will file motions. It may be that some are filed to continue the trial, meaning the trial would start later than February 27. That could be decided this Monday, or maybe not! Maybe it will be decided later in the week.
So, we are just here in Uncertainty for a while longer; we don’t know how much longer, but not very very long anymore, and I thought you might like to hang out with me here, at the tail end of it, so hello, and welcome to you.
In the meantime, if you want to watch me on local news a couple of times in my fly coveralls (you can’t SEE them all the way but you can KNOW that’s what I am wearing), or read lots of articles, you can go to our website <3. And re articles and such, on January 23 we also learned that the DA’s office is specifically displeased with me for speaking to the press, which…I mean, what I say to the press is stuff like “I can’t take my kid to the park” and “wowww this all is taking a lot of public resources” and the idea that those things are problematic to say says…a lot about the DAs office, I guess!
So anyway: that’s where we are, and once I know when the trial really is, I will tell you.
As far as how I am doing: I feel strong. Last week I got a tattoo of a Siren, as I have been intending to do since I named my child after them. It’s still healing. The feathers have Circe’s lines from the Odyssey, book 12 lines 44-46. If you ask me, I’ll chant them for you, and I can do it so it sounds like a benediction or I can do it so it sounds like a curse:
ἀλλά τε Σειρῆνες λιγυρῇ θέλγουσιν ἀοιδῇ
ἥμεναι ἐν λειμῶνι, πολὺς δ᾽ ἀμφ᾽ ὀστεόφιν θὶς
ἀνδρῶν πυθομένων, περὶ δὲ ῥινοὶ μινύθουσι
from atop a great heap of bones,
and with love,
Sarah
Got your back, always. Just so proud of you.
It's a beautiful tattoo--may it bring you strength. I would love to hear the words spoken (probably sounding like a benediction is more my speed, and we'll hold with confidence the thought that that will be what is appropriate at the end of your case.)
